My Path to Good Luck
I started Good Luck Design in 2020 to work directly with small businesses and startups. I like getting into the details of how a company actually runs, finding where it’s stuck, and designing something that helps. Sometimes that’s a new brand. Sometimes it’s a website, or a product that people find confusing to use.
I’ve been doing this kind of work for about 18 years as a designer, consultant, and project manager. Most recently, I was Chief Design Officer at Knowhow, a startup that gives teams and their AI tools one shared memory of what the company has decided. Before that, a lot of my work was in real estate tech. I co-founded Byson Real Estate Co., a boutique real estate startup in New York City, and ran the customer experience as Chief Experience Officer. I was also Chief Design Officer at Tortus, a real estate technology company, where my job was making new technology feel usable to the people it was built for. Earlier on, I was an Art Director focused on UX at Credera. That’s where I learned to make design decisions that hold up in a room full of business stakeholders.
Work and family
I’m also a mom. I stayed home with my son for his first two years, and going back to work after that was harder than I expected. It was also better than I expected. Watching him play has made me stop treating creativity as something that only happens at my desk, and being a parent has made me more focused on the work that matters.
I talk about this openly because a lot of people in creative fields still feel like they need to hide that they’re parents. I don’t think they should. If I can make it a little easier for other working parents to build careers they care about, I’d like to.
Working together
Most of my clients are founders and small teams. I usually start by learning how your business works and what’s getting in the way, then we decide together what to build: a rebrand, a website redesign, digital collateral, or something else. I want the work to look good, but mostly I want it to do its job.
If you’re working on something and think I could help, I’d love to hear about it!
